Creating and Editing Stock Items


The Stock Item Editor

Fields in the Stock Item Editor:

Product Code (required)
You must enter a code in this field. This would usually be your company”s SKU (Stock keeping unit) code used for stock control.
Price
You can enter a price here for purchase calculations. However, it is generally unnecessary, as any price entered here is usually overridden by the Sale Unit Price found in the “Sale Item Editor”.
Name
Enter a descriptive title here. This is for internal use only and will not appear anywhere in your online store or website.
Image (optional)
The addition of an image here is optional. It is not generally necessary to upload an image at this stage. Depending on how you are using your dotAdmin store, you may wish to use this field to display thumbnails in your stock picking lists.
Description (optional)
This field is optional. It is not generally necessary to add a description at this stage. Depending on how you are using your dotAdmin stock items, you may wish to use this field to display descriptions in your stock picking lists.
Tax Application
While you can use this to calculate sale price, as with the “Price” field, this is normally overridden by the Sale Unit Price found in the Sale Item Editor.
Product Type
dotAdmin's store allows the sale of online subscriptions and downloads. This is done by means of specialised type of stock item. these options are set here. For standard stock items, this field should be set to “Normal”
Shipping Details
It is not normally necessary to enter details in this section, as it is overridden by the Sale Unit Price. However, some stores may use the values here to calculate price. More details on shipping details fields can be found here.
Stock
This field shows the current stock level for the item.
Alert Level
This is the level at which a re-stock warning will be shown. Enter the number of units that will be left in stock before you need to be alerted to re-order more items.
Back Order
For this function you need to choose the correct option from the drop down menu.

If the item can be re-ordered when it goes out of stock, allowing the customer to purchase the item at a later date, then select “Yes”.

If the item cannot be re-ordered, select “No”.

If you select “No”, then the sale item and any permutations which contain this stock item will automatically be disabled when the item goes out of stock.
Lead Time
If stock is on “Back Order”, enter a value in this field. This will be the amount of time a customer can expect to wait for the item if it is currently out of stock.

TIP: Make sure you click on the save button before closing the window or your work won’t be saved!
