Editing Shipping Tables

Once you have decided on the basic settings for your Shipping Zone, the next step is to add shipping bands to govern how much the shipping charges will be for any given order. This is done from the Shipping Table tab of the Shipping Zones Editor.

On the previous page, showing the Zone Settings tab, we set the “Calculate Shipping By:” option to “Value”. As a result, the shipping bands we define here will all be based on the total cost of the customer's order.

Each shipping band defines a threshold, and a shipping calculation to be used for any orders which exceed that threshold.

Creating a New Shipping Band

To create a new shipping band, enter a threshold value in the field on the left, select either the addition or multiplication symbol in the middle field, and enter the value to charge for shipping in the field on the right, then click the “Add” button. An example is shown below:

In this example, we have created a Shipping Band to cover orders where the total value is equal to or above £0. If we didn't add any more bands, this rule would apply to every order we take, because no order is likely to have a value below £0. In our example, any orders that fall into this band will have a charge of £5.95 added to cover shipping.

Note the addition symbol is selected in the middle field, denoting that we want to simply add the value on the right as the shipping charge. The alternative, the multiplication symbol, allows you to set the shipping charge as a percentage of the threshold value.

For Example: if we had selected the multiplication field, and entered ‘0.10’ in the right-hand column, we would charge 10% of the total order value to cover shipping.

When a Shipping Band has been created a new empty row is displayed beneath the Shipping Band. Filling in this row and clicking its “Add” button will create another band.

Editing and Removing Shipping Bands

To remove a shipping band, check the “remove” checkbox next to the band you want to delete, and click the “Update” button at the bottom of the editor interface. To edit an existing shipping band, just change the values of its form fields, and click “Update” to save your changes.

Finishing our Example Shipping Table

The example below shows our finished shipping table for the UK Islands shipping zone.

In this example, we have added a further two shipping bands. Orders with a value between £0 and £50 will still be charged a flat £5.95 for shipping. Orders with a value between £50 and £100 will be charged 10% of their total value to cover shipping, and for any orders with a value over £100, shipping is free.

The final stage in creating a shipping zone is to assign Destinations to this zone. Please continue to the Editing Shipping Destinations page.
